Weathervane Theatre Academy

Welcome to the All New Weathervane Theatre Academy!WTA - For White Backgrounds

On November 12, 2021, we announced a change to our theatre education program and name. Formerly known as WYART (Weathervane Young Artists’ Repertory Theatre), we are proud to announce the Weathervane Theatre Academy.

In a county where, in the largest school district, 75% of the youth receive free or reduced lunches, professional theater education is often overlooked as a means for social, emotional, and educational development. Weathervane Theatre Academy has the potential to reach upwards of 1000 youth in the community each year, introducing them to new talents, new friendships, and new skills. The impact of the development of those skills is immeasurable for most. However, it will most likely be displayed in the number of youth engaged in theater programs, an increased interest in theater education, and the development of new skills as a result of participation in our programming. Kids involved in theater have the ability to unlock potential they were not even aware they had. This can positively impact social and emotional development for them, for a lifetime.

In addition to new classes and production camps, our apprenticeship program will be expanded during our 2022 summer season. Our apprenticeship program provide real-life work experience combined with additional educational opportunities in all aspects of technical theatre – in both our summer main stage productions and youth-led productions. Working side-by-side with theatre professionals, our apprentices gain invaluable, practical experience. Many of our past apprentices have used this experience to get into college theatre programs and secure jobs in theatres around the country.
