The Fall of the House of Usher

Please note this performance takes place at Weathervane Playhouse in Newark, Ohio.*

Written by: Jack Neary

Loosely based on the classic Edgar Allan Poe Tale

In this adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic tale, playwright Jack Neary reimagines The Fall of the House of Usher as a thrilling 1930s detective drama set in Boston. James Brookfield, New York City writer, is invited by his childhood friend, Roderick Usher, to document the Usher family’s home. What starts as a restful break from Brookfield’s busy life soon turns into a nightmarish ordeal as he uncovers Usher’s dark intentions. Told as a series of lightning-paced flashbacks as police detective Michael Shaughnessy questions Brookfield about what actually led to the destruction of the Usher family and their home, the play moves relentlessly to its frightening, stunning conclusion.
