The Red Velvet Dessert War: A Baking Competition

The Red Velvet Dessert War is presented by Weathervane Playhouse and Explore Licking
County alongside the production of The Red Velvet Cake War performed on the Weathervane
stage July 11th – 20th.

Local restaurants and bakeries are challenged to make their best red velvet dessert to be
judged on Wednesday, July 10th before Weathervane’s final dress rehearsal of The Red Velvet
Cake War.

There is no cost to compete, however, only 15 restaurants/bakeries will be allowed to enter the
competition. The winner of the competition will have their dessert served in the Weathervane
concession stand during the run of the show (eight performances in total).

Any dessert is accepted as long as it is red velvet. Cakes, cookies, pies, puddings, and beyond –
be creative with your recipes! For the competition, desserts must be easy to serve.

The competition will be judged by Explore Licking County AND attendees. Each
restaurant/bakery will receive five tickets to invite guests to join us for the tasting portion of
the competition and are welcome to stay for the final dress rehearsal of The Red Velvet Cake
War. Votes will be counted during Act 1 of the performance and the winner will be announced
during intermission.

Competition Rules

Restaurants and bakeries…

Must be located in Licking County
Must have a storefront where customers can purchase items
Must be able to attend the competition on July 10th from 5 PM – 7:30 PM
Must be willing to have their dessert served during the run of The Red Velvet Cake War
(July 11-13, 17-20) (Purchased by Weathervane)
Must list basic ingredients (in case of food allergies)
