Note from the Artistic Team: Due to high interest in Weathervane’s 2025 Summer Season, we are not accepting virtual submissions for actors.

Casting and Hiring Statement

Our commitment to real diversity, equality, and inclusion can be most visible in our casting, hiring, and show selection. Therefore, we strongly encourage performers of all ethnicities, gender identities, and types, as well as performers with disabilities to submit and audition. Naturally, this applies and is desired from all artists applying for designer and production crew positions that we have available as well.

Audition and Tech Interview Information

When:
  • Local Auditions (Weathervane Playhouse) for adult MainStage company: February 1 – Please note that we are primarily looking for actors under the age of 25 that can sing, dance and act. Click here to sign up for an audition time slot. Link will be added soon!
  • Local Auditions for Apprentices and Interns: Feb 2 – Please note that these positions are for high school aged individuals. Click here to sign up. Link will be added soon!
What to Prepare:
  • Actors: Please prepare a 1 min monologue & 32 bars of a song that shows off your vocal range & acting ability. You will sign up to present this is a small group block that includes a brief chat-back and cold read. You will also return for a dance call later in the day. All actors wishing to audition must be at both their audition block and dance call to be considered for a role.
  • Designers & Technicians: Please prepare a short presentation of your work.

What to Bring:

  • Actors: A current headshot & resume
  • Designers & Technicians: current resume, photo/headshot if available, and any examples of your work you would like to present or portfolio for review.

Production Schedules:

  • The Fall of the House of Usher– rehearsals begin May 15, closes June 7
  • Grease– rehearsals begin May 26, closes June 21
  • Jesus Christ Superstar– rehearsals begin June 23, closes July 19
  • Pride & Prejudice– rehearsals begin July 10, closes August 2
  • The Villian Wore a Dirty Shirt (melodrama)– rehearsals begin July 21, closes August 10

Please note: rehearsals for all shows except the melodrama take place between 9a-5p daily. For the melodrama, rehearsals will typically run from 6p-10p.

About Weathervane Playhouse

The mission of Weathervane Playhouse is to entertain, educate, and inspire through quality professional theatre productions and theatre arts education.

Weathervane Playhouse features four professional, main stage productions a year. In addition, we have one fundraising melodrama performance and three musical acts. Our season runs from April and closes in the middle of September. We feature comedies, musicals, classics, favorites and the latest from Broadway. Located in Newark Ohio, Weathervane is one of Ohio’s longest running professional summer stock theatres. Weathervane Playhouse is an equal opportunity employer that supports diversity and inclusion.

Our hiring process:

The Summer Resident acting company is comprised of approximately 18 performers and approximately 12 members of the Production Team. Locally located individuals are preferred, but housing can be provided for non-local individuals.

Other things to note:

Roles and positions are paid for all shows except the melodrama. Pay starts at $250 a week and increases with size of role or position. The exception is for apprentices and interns.

The melodrama is a fundraising performance. Actors, technicians, and designers all donate their time to the theatre.

Weathervane Playhouse is a non-equity theatre.
