About Weathervane Playhouse

The mission of Weathervane Playhouse is to entertain, educate, and inspire through quality professional theatre productions and theatre arts education. Weathervane Playhouse features four professional, main stage productions a year. In addition, we have one fundraising melodrama performance and three musical acts. Our season runs from April and closes in the middle of September. We feature comedies, musicals, classics, favorites and the latest from Broadway. Located in Newark Ohio, Weathervane is one of Ohio’s longest running professional summer stock theatres. Weathervane Playhouse is an equal opportunity employer that supports diversity and inclusion.

Our Hiring Process:

The Summer Resident acting company is comprised of approximately 18 performers and approximately 12 members of the Production Team. Locally located individuals are preferred, but housing can be provided for non-local individuals.

We hire for multiple shows. While we do have some local individuals who may only appear in a single production, the goal is for company members to be in multiple shows over the summer.

Prior to auditions, some roles and positions will have already been cast or hired.

Roles and positions are paid for all shows except the melodrama. Pay starts at $250 a week and increases with size of role or position. The exception is for apprentices and interns. The melodrama is a fundraising performance. Actors, technicians, and designers all donate their time to the theatre. Weathervane Playhouse is a non-equity theatre. If you aren't already, please sign-up for our Audition Notification email list at the bottom of the page to receive announcements and information.
