She started her 35 year long career in professional theater and continues as a guest director, dramaturge, and owner of Moonpath Productions. And for a decade, she worked at almost every major theatre in Canada.

Thank you to Caroline Smith for her 2017 work, To Die For, that fills us with puzzling questions and suspicions, and a memorable show for audience fun.
To Die For…
“Janet Bailey rushes down the stairs, obviously panic-stricken. She tries to open the front door, but it will not open.
Carla Woods slowly walks down the stairs. She is beautiful in the way that Disney’s evil queens are – tall, slim, gorgeous…and deadly. She is dressed in a flowing black gown, and is carrying a small pistol. She smiles like a child at an Easter egg hunt.”
Carla is a best-selling author of Gothic romance novels, or “bodice rippers.” She is an extremely well-preserved forty-something, flawlessly groomed woman, and always in perfect control of both herself and her surroundings. However, she struggles to keep her secretaries.
After being disappointed by her secretary, Janet Bailey, Carla’s publisher sends Grace Hunter to interview to be her new secretary and personal assistant. As Grace inquires about Carla’s previous secretaries, she explains, “Kids love to be scared – It’s the adults who have a problem with it.”
Grace Hunter appears to be a nervous, timid sort of woman in her early thirties. Dresses neatly but inexpensively in business attire. Always carries a shabby briefcase. She has her suspicions, but feels she can learn how to get along.
Both highly intelligent and clever women, they work to outsmart one another in their series of games. Until a man shows up at Carla’s large, spooky mansion and throws them all for a twist.
This man is tall and handsome, a perfect “ideal dreamboat” who could have just stepped off the cover of a romance novel. Charismatic and somewhat dangerous; a blend of James Bond, George Clooney, and Heathcliff. And just so happens to resemble the main character of her next book, Edward… (Is this a prank, or did she will him into existence?)
Before Carla gets bored with the next trap she sets for Grace, will she be caught in a dangerous web of lies? Her last secretary worried one of her games would go too far…
A Memorable Show
Weathervane’s creatively designed stage is fit to swallow the cast, filled with mazes and secret passageways, and full of surprises, making this play memorable. The timed sound effects and intense scenes will have you in a state of psychological tension, guessing the final moments of this comedy-thriller.
Carla triggers all the light changes, traps, and realistic props to intimidate Grace for her satisfaction. Plates shatter, guns fire, and loud laughter is heard throughout the house.

Just when you think you begin to understand the game, there’s another plot twist awaiting. Expect big reactions and great excitement as the mysteries unravel!
Like a game inside of a game, To Die For resembles that of Deathtrap and Sleuth, with its clever schemes of deception and tangle of plot twists, which leave you with a shocking ending you won’t expect.
See You There!
